CONTROVERSIES IN COCHLEAR IMPLANTATION

Cochlear implantation is considered one of the main methods for the treatment of profound hearing loss in children and adults. If there is a general consensus in children on the benefits of early implantation ,it is still a controversial subject when we have to: make the decision to implant some cases of auditory neuropathy, decide the treatment of choice for inner ear malformations or in the cases of hearing losses associated with other deficits. From the surgical point of view the choice between the differents electrode arrays is important in some pathologies. Failures in the receptor or in the electrode array may be present in differents patients and must be considered in relation with the cause of deafness.
